Summarization

Summarization in networking is the “combining” of subnets into a single router. For example, 192.168.0.0/24 and 192.168.1.0/24 can be combined into a single route: 192.168.0.0/23. Summarization is also called “supernetting” and the opposite of subnetting. Summarization in networking is important as it reduces the size of the routing table and improves routing stability.
