DR

The DR (Designated Router) is the router that has been elected in the network to perform certain tasks. One protocol that uses a DR is OSPF, where the designated router is used as a central point to exchange routing information. In multicast, the PIM protocol uses a designated router to elect which router(s) are responsible of forwarding PIM join messages to the rendezvous point.
